Titus 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the younger women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God be not blasphemed.

A Moment in Proverbs- Proverbs 3:3 Seeking Him in 2011

Proverbs 3:3 “Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart.”

Friends as we start this New Year of 2011, we need to take this passage to heart. As we enter each day we must remember that God has refreshed His mercy for us and His truth is before us as we open our Bibles. We are told that we are to keep His Word ever before us, but if we fail to open His Word daily, how can we respond to this passage. Our hearts must be open to receive the wisdom that comes from His Word and we must also be open to His correction and leading as He reveals our sins. As we abide in His Word we will find that our wills will change, our nature will be impacted, and our lives will find refuge and fulfillment.

We can take comfort as we place His Word upon our heart for we are promised that His word goes out and does not return void. “My word shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55:11.” That’s good news my friends; God’s Word will improve our lives, but we must seek the LORD while he may be found, yes, we must call upon Him while He is near!

So again, as we think on the New Year, let us give thanks for the improvements that will be experienced as we apply His Word to our heart.

I know I’ve shared with some of you about how we use the LORD’s Word in our family, but I’d like to remind you that you can find new ways to apply His Word to your life that fit into your families. Our daughter and her family read a Proverbs for each day; there are enough Proverbs for each day of the month. Another way Proverbs is applied is through memorization of the birthday Proverbs. If you were born on the first day of the month; Proverbs 1 will become your birthday Proverbs. As you begin to memorize His Word, you will find how your birthday Proverbs will reveal things that you never saw before. But let me remind you, there is nothing “mystical or magical” to this, but it is a fact that anytime we apply any part of His Word to our lives on a daily basis, we will see Him revealed in ways that we never saw before. However you begin your study of God’s Word this year, remember that His Word is life to your hearts and minds.

Abiding Still,

  1. Oh yay! You are back! :D

I have been praying for you and your recovery, Connie! :D

Thank you for sharing this devotion with us today. You are so right! My family started having evening family devotions during Advent led by my husband. Everyone enjoyed breaking open His Word together and talking about it, that we are continuing it into a nightly gathering. :D I am so excited! It is so sweet to listen to how God is speaking to the hearts of our children and share how God is speaking to us.

God bless you and your 2011, Connie!

    Blessings!
