Last Christmas my grandma and grandpa bought my little brother some adventure books. He couldn’t read yet so I agreed to read them to him. Whenever it was time to milk the cows I would take the book with me and we would read it as we milked. It is probably one of my favorite memories from last year. This year Grandma bought my other little brother (he also milks the cows) a set of books. The books are about an African doctor who is a Christian minister to the villages of Africa. Now that my brother is reading really well, he’s started reading to me while we milk! Afterwards, the barn is always filled with laughter as we imagine what it would be like to live in the jungles of Africa bringing the Good News to the lost tribes.
Last year, I had asked my mom to pray that I would have a close relationship with all my siblings. I was looking for ways to minister to them and influence them for the Kingdom of God. My mom still has her notes written of when I gave that prayer request. It was my goal to grow closer to my brothers this year and without knowing it I had! I never would have thought that story time in the barn could bring us so close but God used it to do just that! Now I know, God works through many things… even books!

Oh how true Beth Joy!!!! What a wonderful time you must have had reading together while milking! :D I am so glad that you shared your experiences with us. :D Reading brings our family together too. My boys love it when I snuggle up with them in my "comfy chair" and we read aloud together. They are precious times.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with this post! I can't wait to hear your next Random Moment with Beth-Joy! :D
Happy New Year and many more happy times reading together...

Welcome to the post Beth-Joy. Loved your first Random Moment with Beth-Joy. My heart delights in seeing that you desired to become closer to your siblings. How faithful our Lord is that He answered your prayer! Thank you for realizing whats important in this lifetime. I have started a similar thing with my two little boys. When it's bath time, it's also story time. I'll sit on a stool in the bathroom & read a book to them while they enjoy the warm bath. It's such a special time. So, what would it be like to live in the jungles of Africa? Blessings to you dear one...Andie B.
