Titus 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the younger women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God be not blasphemed.

A Moment In Proverbs: Proverbs 20:5

Proverbs 20:5,
“Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.”

How often have you held something in your heart that you felt would benefit the hearer?  Were you afraid of what they might think?  Did you hold onto the knowledge you had in fear of repercussions?  It is good to hold our voice before speaking what we have learned from the Word, but when the Holy Spirit prompts us to move and share, then we must step out in faith and give the treasures that are hidden in the deep waters of our hearts.

Those who share all they know too soon become less heard and they are  considered “talkative” while those who hold their tongue and speak when the Spirit leads are thought of as wise.  God has given us understanding of His Word throughout the ages and even now we are still learning as we come to Him to seek His wisdom.  But man has learned to ply comments out of the wise before it was due time to share and sadly, the results are often used as weapons or insults to the hearer. We must be careful when sharing and be sure that it is what we’ve been called to do.  Then, we will know that God will take what is sown and He will reap the harvest of souls.

Even while Jesus was walking this earth, he said, “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.” (see John 16:12-14).  Let us seek to be more like Christ, let us consider what is in our heart when we are confronted with those who seek our counsel.  Let us be wise to offer them only that which the Holy Spirit will allow them to digest.

Prayer:  Father, we delight in your counsel.  Thank you that your Word is the same today as it was yesterday.  Thank you that we can plant it within our heart and you will cause it to grow and produce fruit for others to be nourished.  LORD, help us to offer the wisdom that lies within us at the right time and at your leading.  Thank you that we have the Holy Spirit to guide us in all things.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen

Abiding Still,
