Titus 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the younger women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God be not blasphemed.

A Moment In Proverbs; Proverbs 14:27

Proverbs 14: 27,
“The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.”

Yesterday, we discussed the law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death and today we learn that reverence “fear” of the LORD is a fountain of life! We learn from Psalms 36:7-10 that those who put their trust in God are abundantly satisfied because we have found the fountain of life in Him!

To have reverence of the LORD is to put our confidence in the abilities and sovereignty of God.  We learn to walk, wait and live in peace no matter what happens.  God gives us a boldness and confidence that we did not have when we trusted in man or our self.  The children of God experience the promises of His Word as we depend upon Him to meet our needs, provide refuge in the storms of life and teach us to abide through His Word.  The love that our Heavenly Father has for us is met as we humble ourselves before him.

When you picture a fountain do you see a spring of water gushing forth from the ground for only a moment or is the picture in your mind an over-flowing and ever-flowing spring?  I believe the fountain of life is an attribute of an eternal God; it was there in our past, our future, and the future of the generations to follow. His fountain of life is our antidote against sin and temptation; sin may tempt us but we will not be swallowed up in its death.  This is the confidence of those who have received the Son who proclaimed that he was the giver of living water (John 4:9-12).

Prayer: LORD, those who trust in you shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. This is the promise to those who fear the LORD. We will find eternal living fountains of water in the company of our LORD and God when He calls us home.  We praise you for these promises and we look forward to your return.  For those of us who will see death before your “second-coming”, we praise you that we still have this promise of the fountain of life.  In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Abiding Still,
