Titus 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the younger women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God be not blasphemed.

A Moment In Proverbs: Proverbs 11:28

Proverbs 11: 28,
“He that trusts in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.”

Remember Christ’s statement to us in John 15:1-5?  He states that He is the true vine and we are the branches; he goes on to remind us that without Him as our vine we cannot bring forth fruit; but if we abide in Him then we will be fruitful.

When we take root in this world; we put or trust in the riches and the acknowledgement it offers.  All that we can possess is worthless unless we are part of the Holy Vine.  Every effort and everything we might accomplish will be stripped away if it was obtained or done without Christ.

We cannot flourish on our own; we need support to develop our fruitful harvest for the LORD and the only way to get that is to abide in Christ.

Consider this as you enter this day: Is the work that I’m busy about accomplishing this day for the good of the Kingdom?  Do I trust in Christ to help me accomplish all that I believe is my calling? Am I more concerned about the riches I’m storing than the testimony I’m leaving for future generations? And finally, Am I abiding in the True Vine?

Prayer:  Father, these questions can be asked of each of us and they are sobering when we consider how you look at the busy lives we’ve created for ourselves. Lord, prune us.  Create hearts that are dependent upon you for our strength and our growth. LORD, if we were to gain all the wealth of this world we would be empty without you.  We praise you that you are our living vine and we are branches of your Kingdom.  In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Abiding Still,
