Titus 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the younger women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God be not blasphemed.

A Moment In Proverbs: Proverbs 3:1-2

Proverbs 3:1-2,
“My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

Have you noticed all the commercials that speak of living longer and more beautiful?  It seems to be the hot-topic, no matter where you go; stores with signs the size of houses, pharmacies with sure cures for worry reducers, wrinkle reducers and old age remedies; and billboards showing models that are 14 year olds that are dressed like 30 year olds and touting the newest “fountain of youth” procedures and medications for long life.

But they’re all temporal, they don’t last, they take our resources and they leave us depleted, disappointed and some even shorten our lives (just watch the law firm commercials for those).  But God’s word says that if we do not forget his teaching and keep his commands in our heart then these things will prolong our life many years and bring us peace!  Can you think of anything more beautiful than a face that has peace written in every line?  Have you seen a blessed saint who has died and they look like they are at complete peace?  I can think of nothing more age defying nor more beautiful than the face that beholds the LORD at their departure of this world.  Now about a longer life, those aren’t my words, these are the Words from God’s Word…for the length of days and long life and peace, shall they add to thee…there you have it!  We are promised if we keep his commandments and apply His Word to our hearts, we will have these blessings.

No amount of marketing, no new medicine, no new exercise or no fountain of youth will give us what the Word of God gives (see Proverbs 10:27; Proverbs 19:23; and Proverbs 9: 10-11; 1Kings 3:13-14).  Now don’t forget that a godly man can still face disaster and death, even though he is righteous before the LORD (see Job 1-2).  But even in these circumstances, God is faithful to provide, equip, restore and bless even in the midst of turmoil.  We must remember that those who love the LORD will never walk alone and our number of days are in His hands (See Romans 8:27-39 and Psalms 139).

Prayer: LORD, you know us so well; you know the measure of our days and what our days will hold.  You know how frail life can be and yet you are the one who can add to that life.  LORD, you have made our days and age is nothing before you because time does not control your universe, you our LORD control time.  LORD, help us to not get caught up in what the world offers for all is vain, but let us become engrained in the Word of God so that our days will be full of your blessings, no matter how old or young we are when you call us home.  In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Abiding Still,
