Titus 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the younger women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God be not blasphemed.

Real Moments with M.O.M.- Picking Corn

corn (3) This last weekend we were delighted to get a call from a nearby friend! She was so excited that it made me giggle to hear her voice, “Jeanette, God must be smiling on us today! I’m just so excited to tell you that I am standing in the middle of a corn field and they say we can pick all we want!” I loaded the children into the car, put our buckets in for hauling corn in and out of the field, and speed down the road eager to receive our blessings! We took a loaf of Beth-Joy’s bread as a gift to the family allowing us to have these treasures! What a joy it was to work in the fields with my children and friends! Bekah took some photos for us to share with you. Beth-Joy was the main person to make sure it got all put away that night while the rest of us did the cleaning of the corn and the clean up afterwards as well. It was a busy day that has begun what will be a busy season for us while we gather the harvest and put it away for the winter days to come.

corn (2) Don’t be shy to stop and ask a neighbor if they plan on using the fruit that you see dropping to the ground. Many times people move into homes with fruit trees and don’t have the time or desire to pick, prepare, and preserve it. I have had more smiling faces over the years from strangers that were just so happy the fruit wouldn’t be going to waste. We always gave them a pie, bread, cookies, or some other home made gift as a thank you gift. Most years the Lord leads us to a variety of places that allow us to glean. Along with our own garden efforts we have all the jelly, veggies, and pie makings to last us till next harvest. God is faithful and provides richly for His people!

Enjoy the harvest dear friends!

  1. There is a house right across the street from the church my husband began pastoring a couple of months ago that has carambolas(starfruit) falling on the ground. It hurt me to see such waste. When we mentioned it to a couple of the church members - someone was able to get permission for us and some other members to pick them. I was so happy.
