Titus 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the younger women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God be not blasphemed.

A Moment in Proverbs 7/28/09

Proverbs 28: 27
He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack; but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

Teaching our children to give is done through example and very few words. Ponder this passage and consider how your actions show your children to care for the poor. It can be as simple as taking a meal to a neighbor who has been laid off to helping at the local rescue missions. I challenge you to give this matter to prayer and ask the Lord to open your eyes to the needs of those around you. I would love to hear how He inspires creativity in your home to care for the poor, how He blesses you in return and how much JOY you have in obedience!

May His Name be glorified in our homes,
Mrs. Joseph Wood

  1. This is something we have done - to teach my son about giving more than giving specifically to the poor. We discovered that someone was selling a large container of matchbox cars at a garage sale. So my husband and son went together and purchased the container of cars.

Now - the goal for my son is to give them all away to little boys when they come to play or when we go to a playdate he fills his backpack with them and the boys play with the cars and then each boy can take one home.

We want our son to experience the joy that comes from giving to others - even when it is small. In the process he has given other things away such as his watch - I made it clear I would not replace it and he insisted on giving it away. My prayer is that my children would learn that their "stuff" is not their own - but that they are simply stewards of what God has given them and they should use it for his glory and kingdom purposes. But this is a hard thing to teach "selfish" children. So this container of match box cars has been a great joy and teaching tool.
