Titus 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the younger women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God be not blasphemed.

A Moment In Proverbs: Proverbs 14:26

Proverbs 14:26,
“In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence; and his children shall have a place of refuge.”

One of the common misconceptions about being a Christian in our world today, is that many believe that since they were born into a Christian home that in itself, makes them a Christian.  But those of us who have made the personal decision to follow Christ know that it must be an individual choice to have a relationship with our LORD.

As we come to the Word today and learn of the blessings to those who are born to families who have a strong confidence in the LORD, we find that they will have a place of refuge.  It is through our commitment to Christ that our children will learn that they too can have this confidence to endure whatever happens; knowing God will provide what is needed.  It is not by our “personal decision” that they are saved, but by our example that they learn to make the choices to be lead by faith and make their own personal decision that they too have a place of refuge.

This passage reminds us that by faith anyone who makes God their confidence can be encouraged that God will be God to the next generation and He will extend His mercy and love to them as He did for us. God’s love and mercy does not have a limit; it is a continuous fountain that we can draw from for generation to generation. Our responsibility then, is that we teach our children that the decision to follow Christ must be their own decision.  We are called to be an example to others so that they can see God’s work in us.

Prayer:  LORD, you are our rock and our fortress; it is by your name that you lead and guide us.  Father, teach us how we can be a living example of your love to the next generation so that they too will find you as their fortress, deliverer, strength, buckler, salvation and high tower for refuge.  LORD, we trust in your promises and we know that you desire to have a personal relationship with each of us.  Help us to walk in such a way that the next generation seeks the hope we have found in you so that they too will find you as their God and personal savior.  In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Abiding Still,
