Titus 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the younger women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God be not blasphemed.

A Moment in Proverbs- Proverbs 27:17

Proverbs 27:17, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”

As we consider God’s Word today, let us apply this verse as we consider our world. The world is in turmoil; it does not offer hope and it cannot provide our every need. All around us we see people who are suffering from disappointments, failures and heartaches that are a result in putting their hope in this world or the people of this world.

This passage reminds us that we can inspire those who are lost in their pain by offering them His Word through our living. Just as iron sharpens iron (reflecting how a knife is sharpened with a stone), we can be an encouragement to those we meet by presenting them with His Word, for the word of God is quick and powerful, and shaper than a two edged sword. It has the ability to get to the soul and spirit of man and minister to the thoughts and intents of their heart (see Romans 14:12). His Word will heal, correct, and instruct the downcast heart. God’s Word is the Iron that sharpens iron; and yes, it can restore hope in the lost and perfect grace in the working of their lives. Let us minister to those God places in our path this day.
