A Moment in Proverbs- Proverbs 23:22

In our home, each morning, we read the Bible as a family (right now we are in Galatians) and then read one chapter of Proverbs with it. Our Bible time typically takes an hour or so but can take longer if we have a lot to discuss. The children always share their favorite verse after the Proverbs of the day is read to them. One child is then picked to write their favorite verse on our family wipe off board. It remains on the board, in the main room of the house for us to see and consider all throughout the day. You will often see little ones gathered around the board reading it to a younger child or discussing the verses practical application in their lives. It is good for us to have His Word always before us! Before we had a wipe off board the children would write their favorite verse on index cards and then place them above the outlet switches throughout the house. I have enjoyed both of these ideas and seen great fruit from His Word in their lives. How do you keep His Word ever before your children? I would love to hear!

For today, I am sharing verse 22 for us to consider. May His Word bear fruit in every part of our lives!

Proverbs 23: 22 Hearken unto the thy Father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

Many families have believed the lie that children go through 'stages' of development where they no longer "hearken" to their fathers voice, where they naturally despise the instruction of their mother. This is simply not the Truth. God calls it sin, foolishness and rebellion! We need to be careful not to make excuses for our children's sin. We need to pay careful attention to their actions and correct them when we see that they are refusing instruction from their parents.

Remember, rebellion is as witchcraft and stubbornness is as idolatry. We wouldn't allow our children to practice witchcraft and idolatry in our homes now would we? Therefore, let us not allow them to practice rebellion or stubbornness in our homes either.

1Sa 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
